Summary
This module covers topics such as, Data-driven business decision making, Data mining process, Machine Learning and Predictive modelling for Finance and Management, Model evaluation, Data visualisation, Presentation of data insights, Ethics in Data Science, and Data Science solutions for business problems. Students will also learn statistical programming skills and implement applied predictive modelling and machine learning algorithms to develop Data Science solutions to business problems.

Available to all Business School Part II students with the required pre-requisite.

- One 2-hour lecture
- One 2-hour lecture
- Two 2-hour lectures each week for 7 weeks
- One 1-hour computing each week for 8 weeks
Assessment
- 20% Workshop: 8 computer labs
- 20% Group Project with Presentation: 15 minutes
- 60% Coursework: Individual report (2000 words)

Educational Aims
The aim of this module is to prepare students for the new data-driven era. The primary goal of this course is for students to learn data science concepts and techniques to make informed decisions to solve business problems. This course will provide students with ability to understand data, to make good judgments about and good decisions with data, and to use data analysis tools responsibly and effectively for solving business problems. After successfully completion, this course will help students acquiring valuable data science skills and experience that can be applicable to a variety of emerging career paths in business analytics.Learning Outcomes
