Summary
This module emphasizes the cross cultural issues arising from globalisation in managing organisations today. These are evaluated mainly from a psychological perspective, hence the focus on interactions of people from different cultures in organizational settings. It addresses the dynamic role of global manager in managing various cross cultural settings and assignments. It will cover topics such as cultural comparison on people’s interactions, cultural dimensions in decision making and negotiation, leading across cultures, challenges of working in a multicultural work group and taking international assignments.
Target Students
Available to Part I and II Business School studentswith the required pre-requisite BUSI1055 Organisation Behaviour.
Classes
- One 1-hour-30-minute tutorial each week for 3 weeks
- One 4-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
Assessment
- 20% Coursework 1: Group presentation on a case study
- 80% Exam 1 (2-hour-30-minute): One 2.5-hour examination

Educational Aims
The module aims to introduce some of the key concepts that are relevant for cross-cultural management, with an emphasis on the interpersonal aspects of management that can be problematic due to cultural differences.Learning Outcomes

- The dynamic and changing nature of business and the consideration of the future of organisations within the global business environment, including the management of risk.
- Leadership, management and development of people and organisations including the implications of the legal context.
- The need for individuals and organisations to manage responsibly and sustainably and behave ethically in relation to social, cultural, economic and environmental issues.
- The design, development of organisations, including cross-cultural issues, change, diversity and values.

This module develops:
- The ability to analyse facts and circumstances to determine the cause of a problem and identifying and selecting appropriate solutions.
- Conceptual and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

This module develops:
- Self-analysis and awareness/sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and cultures. This includes a continuing appetite for development.
