Module content will focus on the following areas in order to facilitate student capacity to define leadership and develop a critical understanding of the foremost leadership theories, with specific emphasis on how leadership theory can inform practice.
Students will also develop a critical understanding of the symbiotic relationship between leaders and followers, the portability of leadership, cross-context of leadership; the ethics and the dark side of leadership, and leadership in social organisations.
Re-assessment format is decided by the school.
Target Students
Available to Part II Business School students with the required pre-requisite BUSI1086 (Organisational Behaviour).
Classes
- One 3-hour workshop
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
Activities may take place every teaching week of the Semester or only in specified weeks. It is usually specified above if an activity only takes place in some weeks of a Semester
Assessment
- 100% Coursework 1: One individual 2,000-word essay

Educational Aims
This module explores both theoretical and practical leadership issues and challenges in contemporary organisations across different in different industrial and cultural contexts. Students will be able to critically evaluate the main theories of and approaches to leadership. Students will develop an appreciation of the dynamic nature of leadership relationships between leaders and followers. Students will also develop critical reflection of their own leadership style preferences.Learning Outcomes
