Summary
The module provides an introduction to the basic knowledge required to understand, design and write computer programs in business context and the basic principles underlying the process of Software Engineering. No previous programming experience is assumed and the module proceeds via a sequence of lectures supported by simple exercises designed to give practical experience of the concepts introduced in the lectures.
The content will cover:
- Introduction to programming and the programming environment
- Programming Basics (Variables, data type, operators, assignments, expressions, and comments)
- Control Flows (Conditional statements and Iteration Statements)
- Data structure (List, Dictionary, Tuple)
- Functions (Function definition and Call, Parameters, Return Values, Variable Scope)
- Extended functions using Standard Libraries
- Business applications
Re-assessment format is decided by the school.

Open to all part I Business School students
Classes
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
- One 1-hour computing each week for 10 weeks
Assessment
- 30% Coursework 1: Project-based Group Coursework
- 70% Exam 1 (1-hour-30-minute): 1.5 hour Lab exam
