Summary
The module considers several of the transformations in contemporary organisations as a result of the use of recently developed, developing, or emerging technologies and information systems. Topics include different ways to understand the relationship between technology and the design and management of organisations, and the implications of technology for different business management areas and different sectors of the economy (including how these affect society and citizens). Potential future technologies and issues are considered.
Re-assessment format is decided by the school.
Target Students
Compulsory for IBM and IBC, optional for IBL
Classes
- One 1-hour-30-minute workshop each week for 11 weeks
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 4 weeks
- One 1-hour-30-minute lecture each week for 11 weeks
Assessment
- 30% Presentation 1: 15 - 20 minute group presentation
- 20% In-class assessment: in-class assessment: 2 x 40 min conducted during seminar on Moodle
- 50% Exam (1-hour-30-minute): 1.5 hour exam

Educational Aims
To examine the technologies and information systems that organisations will use in the future and why they are likely to be used. Also to address how new technologies may play a key role in sustaining organisational operations and industrial civilization.Learning Outcomes

This module develops a knowledge and understanding of:
- The dynamic and changing nature of business and the consideration of the future of organisations within the global business environment, including the management of risk.
- The development, management, application and implementation of information systems and their impact upon organisations.
- The comprehension and use of relevant communications for application in business and management, including the use of digital tools.
- The development of appropriate policies and strategies within a changing environment to meet stakeholder interests.
- The need for individuals and organisations to manage responsibly and sustainably and behave ethically in relation to social, cultural, economic and environmental issues.
Intellectual skills:
This module develops:
- The ability to analyse and evaluate a range of business data, sources of information and appropriate methodologies, which includes the need for strong digital literacy, and to use that research for evidence-based decision-making.
- Conceptual and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

This module develops:
- Self-analysis and awareness/sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and cultures. This includes a continuing appetite for development.
