Summary
This module covers the applications of the latest and emergent biotechnology topics that are relevant to industries. The students will visit industrial companies and learn the commercial development of products and the processes in research and development. A couple of industries from pharmaceutical to food will be enlisted. Besides, this module provides an introductory study path for people who wish to start their own biotechnology business. Other than the industrial visit, external lectures/seminars from industrial expert and/or entrepreneur will also be included to promote the team-based and self-reflective learning of students.

Educational Aims
To understand the current trends in commercial development of products related to biotechnology by visiting biotechnology industries and relevant research organizations as well as attending the lectures / seminars conveyed by biotechnology field experts and/or entrepreneurs.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be able: L1 - To gain first-hand knowledge on how we can make different products with commercial significance in biotechnology field. This includes the knowledge and understanding on the ways the industries use the fundamental and applied research findings that underpin commercial applications. L2 - To gain insights on the multi-facets of entrepreneurship and how to innovate and act entrepreneurially based on management perspective and marketing strategies.
L3 -synthesise related information from industrial visits by working in teams. L4 - To promote the development of ideas, opinions and critical thinking through the industrial experience, contents of the lectures / seminars and self-reflection diaries.
