Summary
The module mostly involves interaction with various animal biotechnology industries to provide the learner with an understanding of the processes involved in research and development for relevant commercial applications. Content is mostly delivered via interactive seminars with external speakers and tutorials.
Target Students
MSc Animal Biotechnology stream of MSc Biotechnology Course but also available to other PGT or PGR students in the School of Biosciences. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by the Offering School in advance may be cancelled without notice.
Classes
- One 2-hour seminar each week for 12 weeks
2-3 hours per week over 12 week semester. Mostly as seminars with external speakers, plus some tutorials and potentially some site visits if possible.
Assessment
- 100% Coursework 1: Essay 2000 words

To understand the current trends and practices in research and development within animal biotechnology industries, especially those providing products and/or services related to animal or human health.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will:
- have gained first-hand knowledge about the research and development processes within various animal biotechnology industries.
- be aware of novel developments within animal biotechnology industries.
- understand the scientific basis of a variety of technologies being exploited for relevant commercial applications.
- be aware of challenges associated with the commercialisation of animal biotechnology.
- be able to synthesise related information.
- be able to communicate knowledge of the above (tested by essay).
