Summary

This module covers various techniques commonly involved in animal biotechnology, with particular emphasis on mammalian cell culture. The module develops skills in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, reading literature, communicating scientific results, plus ethical and regulatory awareness. Content is delivered by lectures, tutorials, and practical class.

Target Students

MSc Animal Biotechnology stream of MSc Biotechnology Course but also available to other PGT or PGR students in the School of Biosciences. Students are reminded that enrolments which are not agreed by the Offering School in advance may be cancelled without notice.

Classes

2-3 hours per week to be either lecture/tutorial/practical.

Assessed by end of autumn semester

Educational Aims

To develop an in-depth understanding of the research process, including formulating hypotheses, experimental design, laboratory techniques, ethical and regulatory considerations, data analyses and interpretation, and research communication skills.To demonstrate knowledge gained, students will be required to communicate research findings, showing critical analysis and understanding of the associated laboratory techniques.
