Summary
The international agribusiness module is delivered through lectures providing participants with a detailed understanding of the global challenges and opportunities as well as principles and practices of various agricultural systems around the world. The module places agriculture in perspective and develop an understanding of agribusiness in multi-cultural and varying socio-economic and environmental context. It will explore the challenges farmers face, and how is decision making process affected by these factors. It will provide a thorough understanding of international agricultural and agribusiness systems following four main themes:
1. Basic agricultural and livestock production scenarios including the agronomic profiling, agricultural finance, marketing, etc.
2. Supply and/or value chains in agriculture with a main focus on mechanisms and problems and opportunities.
3. Local agricultural and/or trade policies.
4. Impacts of political factors on agricultural sustenance and development.
Target Students
Only available for BSc Agricultural Business Management, BSc Agriculture, and related subjects. Also available to all Biosciences students.
Classes
- One 2-hour tutorial each week for 7 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 3 weeks
x 4hrs x Centrally Three 2 hour formal lectures; two 2 hour tutorials; ; student-centred learning 176 hours.

- 100% Coursework 1: 2000 word

Educational Aims
The module aims are:1. To understand and gain insight into the international agricultural systems and learn how farming operations ranging from production to marketing are carried out globally.2. In particular, to demonstrate the key differences in global agricultural systems by comparing different contexts under which different developing and developed economies operate.3. To develop knowledge of agricultural supply/value chains in various contexts. Identify the factors that determine how "farm to fork" systems differ in each region.4. To develop knowledge of various policy frameworks and barriers to trade in a broad international perspective. To identify the influential elements that mould those policies.5. To develop the understanding of how agricultural production and agribusiness is affected by political and economic factors.Learning Outcomes
- Upon successful module completion, students will not only be able to grasp the complexities of global agribusiness challenges but also showcase a detailed understanding of agricultural practices across diverse regions.
- Illustrate and analyse the impact of international factors.
- Students will proficiently be able to assess and present information to critically evaluate and understand the dynamics of international agri-business operations, emphasizing the influential role of socio-economic, political and economic factors.
