Summary
This integrative module considers current and future developments in biotechnology. Students are introduced to a number of issues that have current or possible future impacts on biotechnology and the environment. The content will change every year to reflect current issues in biotechnology.
Target Students
BSc Plant Biotechnology and BSc Biotechnology at UNMC
Classes
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 8 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture
- One 2-hour lecture
- One 5-hour lecture
- One 8-hour field studies
Activities may take place every teaching week of the Semester or only in specified weeks. It is usually specified above if an activity only takes place in some weeks of a Semester
Assessment
- 100% Coursework 1: Research plan- 2000 words (70%) presentation (30%)
Educational Aims
To raise awareness of students to current and future issues in plant and industrial biotechnology. To enable students to analyse the advantages and disadvantages of a range of current and future developments in plant and industrial biotechnologyLearning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Critically review the current state of research in a specific biotechnological field
2. Analyse the advantages and disadvantages of a range of current and future developments in biotechnology
3. Evaluate the future options and possible strategies for biotechnological applications in Malaysia and worldwide
