Summary

This module examines the physiological basis of various integrated behaviours. It covers central nervous system regulation of: autonomic nervous system, cardiovascular, and respiratory function; emotion and motivation; body temperature; and associated behaviours. The module also has a significant practical component concerned with integrative aspects of exercise physiology and students will be expected to participate in exercise involving walking and running for one mile.

Target Students

Animal Science and other Biosciences or Life Sciences students. The module is capped at 60 students, with Animal Science students receiving priority for module entry. Only available for UG Year 3 students.

Educational Aims

Physiology involves complex interactions between different organ systems working together to regulate bodily functions appropriately. The aim is to understand how the hypothalamus and its inter-connections with the nervous and endocrine systems act as key links between various physiological functions and behaviours.
