Summary
This course will be centered on the delivery of key professional skills of a nutritionist through timetabled lectures, group activities and self-directed learning. It primarily focuses on health and nutrition promotion and scientific research skills in the field of health and nutrition. Students will involve in planning and implementing a health and nutrition promotion program at the same time applying various data collection and analysis methods to evaluate the effectiveness of the health and nutrition program. In addition, research methodology including preparing proposal, literature reviewing, reporting, writing and presenting of research findings will be covered in this course.
Other aspects covered will include career skills (CV writing and interview skill) and health communication.
Target Students
BSc Nutrition (B400), Capped for students enrolled on BSc Nutrition (B400) as module contents and delivery is specifically designed for students enrolled on this course.Condition:- Only available for students studying BSc Hons Nutrition.
Classes
- One 4-hour practicum each week for 2 weeks
- Two 2-hour lectures each week for 10 weeks
Lectures on research methodology, concept and process in planning, implementing and evaluating nutrition and health promotion programs. Practical which involves hands-on data analysis and interpretation and planning, implementing and evaluating health and nutrition program.
Assessment
- 60% Coursework 1: Nutrition Showcase (60%)
- 40% Coursework 2: Report (40%)
Educational Aims
The aim of the module is to develop and consolidate personal and professional skills required by the Association for Nutritionists, the accrediting body for Nutritionists and for the degree programme.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Identify possible future career pathways reflecting on learnings and wider experiences.
- Demonstrate a range of professional behaviours and competencies associated with accreditation by the Association for Nutrition (AfN).
- Describe research design and methodology in the field of nutrition and health
- Develop skills in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health and nutrition promotion programme
- Data analysis and interpretation, reporting writing and presentation of research findings
- Develop effective intra- and interpersonal communication skills and use effective communication tools
