Summary
This module is designed to give students an opportunity to develop vital research and professional skills. Students will develop their group work, leadership, time management, statistical and communication skills whilst working on a range of problem-based learning tasks. Students will work on real word problems and will have the opportunity to consider the different career paths available to an Environmental Sciences graduate.
Target Students
BSc/MSci Environmental Science students, BSc/MSci Environmental Biology students, Environmental Sciences (2+2) programme, BSc/MSci Plant Science students, all UG Agricultural science students and Natural Science students.
Classes
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks
Assessment
- 100% Coursework 1: 2000 word portfolio
Assessed by end of spring semester
Educational Aims
During the module students will develop their professional competencies and abilities as an Environmental Scientist.Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to effectively search and collate literature on a given topic
2.To be able to design experiments/studies and choose appropriate techniques and statistical tests
3.To be able to present work effectively to both scientific and non-specialist audiences
4.To be able to apply course content to real-world examples (problem-based learning).
5.To be able to develop project management skills.
