Summary

The course will cover the applied and practical elements of industrial biotechnology for a wider insight into industries that utilize biotechnology as their main business drive. The course will cover all biotechnology industries with diverse activities for students to enhance their understanding and critical thinking skills. Practical skills required for industry-ready graduates including discussions, debates, project planning and lab practice for key equipment will be included. Invited speakers from the industry will communicate on the challenges in specific industries.

Educational Aims

The aim of the course is to describe the use of biotechnology for industrial application including the skills required for operating key instruments and the communication of technology. The course will cover a project idea developed by students in groups that provide solutions for a specific challenge in the biotechnology industry. In addition, there is experiential learning through communications with industry experts on the future of biotechnology industry.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the use of applied biotechnology in various industrial applications.
  2. Gain technical and communication skills required in the biotechnology industry.
  3. Strategize, plan and execute a project for a potential biotechnology industry.               

       4. Engage communications with invited industry experts on the topic of challenges in biotechnology industry.
