The content of the module focuses on understanding the principles behind core molecular techniques in biotechnology, Cell culture, Experimental design, Data Analysis and Interpretation, Research ethics, Research skills and preparation for research projects. Training in identifying literature sources and searching databases is a part of this training.

- One 3-hour tutorial each week for 2 weeks
- One 3-hour practicum each week for 3 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 7 weeks

- 100% Exam 1 (2-hour): ExamSys

Educational Aims
To develop an in depth understanding of the research process including formulating hypotheses, experimental design, laboratory research techniques, research ethics, the nature of basic and applied research, data analyses and interpretation, research communication skills (written). Knowledge gained will be demonstrated primarily by assignments requiring students to critically evaluate research methods.Learning Outcomes
