Summary

This module is compulsory for Environmental Science, Environmental Biology and Plant Biology undergraduates. It is spread across the autumn and spring semester of year one. The module is taught using a mixture of lectures, laboratory and computer practical sessions alongside tutorials. Module topics include key field and lab techniques, scientific writing, data analysis, data presentation and referencing skills.

Target Students

Available to BSc/MSci Environmental Science, BSc/MSci Environmental Biology BSc/MSci Plant Biology and BSc Hons Agricultural Business Management students.

Educational Aims

This module will enable you to:Use the library and other sources to retrieve information; read, understand and synthesise primary literaturedevelop your written presentation skillshandle, analyse and visualise data appropriatelypractise key practical skills for environmental science

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

1. Use the library services effectively to search for relevant literature. 

2. Reference sources in an appropriate style(s). 

3. Write and construct scientific documents (e.g. papers, reports,) using appropriate styles, conventions, and terminology. 

4. Identify an appropriate approaches for solving a quantitative problem through background and collaborative research. 

5. Analyse and display scientific data appropriately.
