Summary
This module deals with the major physiological systems which are essential for life.
Target Students
Available to students in Biosciences and Life Sciences, excluding BSc/MSci Animal Science students.
Assessment
- 50% ExamSys Exam 1 (1-hour): ExamSys Exam
- 50% ExamSys Exam 2 (1-hour): ExamSys Exam
Assessed in both autumn & spring semest
Educational Aims
The aim is to provide students with basic information on form and function within the central nervous system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, renal system and digestive system.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Name the major anatomical structures of the major organs systems
- Identify the function of the major organ systems at the cellular, organ and organism levels
- Identify the basic rules of pharmacology and drug receptor interactions
- Recognise the interdependence of major physiological systems
- Identify the basic principles of cell communication
- Recognise cell-specific responses to signals and environmental stresses.
