Summary
The Advanced Innovations in Cities focuses on all innovative means toward the built environment. New trends, technologies, and approaches shaping cities will be discussed. This module will also offer theoretical thinking toward cities.
Through understanding innovations towards cities, the fundamental objective of this module is to encourage the students to intellectually engage with the relationship between innovations and living, and to form a theoretic viewpoint of this relationship.
The module is lecture based, with workshops or seminars. The student is expected to present and analysis one perspective of innovations in cities in an illustrated essay.

- 100% Coursework 1: illustrated essay (submission in Moodle system), 2500 words

Educational Aims
This module illustrates different approaches towards cities and different perspectives of how we view innovations in cities. In particularly, the term “advanced innovations” is often associated with technology, this module fosters critical understanding of how innovative technology and approach improve our living environments and well-being.Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the module students will:
• Students will understand the general principles, theories and the importance of urbanism within a contemporary context.
• Students will understand the innovative approaches on cities in a historic context
• Define and analyse problems effectively and appropriately in the fields of urbanism and sustainability.
• Develop research skills and experience in the context of urbanism.
• Demonstrate an understanding of methods and innovations in relation to urban living.
• To communicate their ideas fully to other professional urban designers, planners, policy makers and the politicians they advise.
• To develop research, analytical and writing skills.
• To work independently, as a self-motivated individual, as well as work in teams, for both analytical and essay writing skills.
